Abstract Submission 2027

Thank you for your interest in presenting at the Southwestern Anthropological Association (SWAA) Annual Meeting.

To submit a proposal, please complete the form below. You will be asked to provide your presentation title, presentation type, author information, and an abstract describing your research, project, or presentation.

Please select the proposal type that best fits your submission:

Individual Presentation/Paper – A single scholarly presentation that will be grouped into a session with related papers.
Poster – A visual presentation of research, teaching, applied work, or community engagement.
Organized Session – A complete session organized around a shared theme, including multiple presenters and a session chair.
Film/Media/Podcast – A presentation using film, digital media, podcasting, or related formats.
Workshop – An interactive session focused on skills, methods, pedagogy, professional development, or community engagement.

All sessions will have a five participant limit. Undergraduates are not eligible to be lead organizers of Organized Sessions. Papers and posters submitted by undergraduate students will be considered for inclusion only if they are based on research already conducted. Additionally, undergraduate papers must be either (a) submitted as part of an organized session that is chaired by a faculty member; or (b) submitted as part of the Sydney Story Student Paper Competition. Undergraduate submissions require the name and email address of a faculty sponsor.

Papers accepted into the program are eligible for inclusion in the conference Proceedings. If you are interested in this option, please consult the Proceedings Author Guidelines for more information. All proposals will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Accepted presentations will be included in the conference program.

Please note:

Presenters must be registered for the conference.
Abstracts should be concise and clearly describe the purpose, methods, and significance of the presentation.
The submission deadline is Sunday, January 31, 2027.
Notification of acceptance will be sent by Sunday, February 14, 2027.

Photo & Visual Art Exhibition
This year, SWAA is hosting a Photo & Visual Art Exhibition exploring the theme Humans: Structure and Possibility.

Do you have photographs, artwork, fieldwork documentation, or other visual materials related to your research or this year’s theme? We invite you to submit your work for consideration and display during the conference.

Artists may also enter their work in the SWAA Conference Cover Art Competition. The winning artwork will be featured on the cover of this year’s conference program and recognized at the conference.
