Sunday Tour: Skeletal and Archaeological Research Materials Collection at SJSU

Host: Elizabeth Weiss (San Jose State University Physical Anthropology)

10-11am

Leaves from the lobby of the San Jose Hilton at 9:30am (prompt)

This year, we are excited to announce a new Sunday morning tour as part of the SWAA conference experience. This year’s tour is of the Skeletal and Archaeological Research Materials Collection at SJSU. The tour group will meet in the lobby of the San Jose Hilton and walk the few blocks to SJSU. The tour will last from 10am to 11am.

Come and see where our skeletal and archaeological research materials are kept. Whether you are curious about what happens to bioarchaeological materials after the excavation or you are looking for information about materials for future research, this is the tour you must attend. With Professor Elizabeth Weiss (who has been at SJSU since 2004) as the guide, you will get an insider’s look at the curation facility and research space. Key research materials that include x-rays of Ryan’s Mound individuals, skeletal remains from Carthage, and mortars from a variety of California Amerind sites will be exhibited. Unique individuals housed in the facility will be presented and discussed. Frequently used tools will be on site for demonstrations. Come with your curiosity, your questions, and your anthropological enthusiasm!
