Jayne Howell

Jayne Howell received her Ph.D. in Anthropological Sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is Professor of Anthropology and Co-Director of the Latin American Studies Program at California State University Long Beach, where she is a dedicated teacher and mentor to undergraduate and graduate students. She has conducted ethnographic research regarding rural schooling and employment opportunities in the Mexican state of Oaxaca for 30 years. Her most recent focus is the everyday personal, professional lives of rural teachers. She is former President of the Society for Urban, National, Transnational and Global Anthropology (SUNTA) of the American Anthropological Association, and is currently Treasurer for the Association for Feminist Anthropology.
