Andrea Kalvesmaki

Andrea Kalvesmaki is a medical anthropologist with extensive cross-disciplinary and mixed-method research experience. She has a strong background in translational and mixed method research, and works to align research methods in order to address policy and practice for people in need. She holds degrees in psychology (BA), medical anthropology (MS), and education, leadership, and policy (PhD). Dr. Kalvesmaki is a health informatics fellow at the Salt Lake Veteran Affairs Medical Center and a Research Associate for the Division of Epidemiology in the University of Utah, School of Medicine. She manages multiple projects examining short and long term outcomes for Veterans and their families, including research on Veteran caregiving, living with hidden disabilities such as TBI and PTSD, and suicide prevention work. She emphasizes how listening to and understanding the lived experiences of others, the stories behind data, drive us to improve access and equity in health, education, and other interacting and connected social systems.
