Cancelled: 2020 SWAA Conference in Albuquerque
Rescheduled for April 2021 in Albuquerque
It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the cancellation of the 2020 annual conference of the Southwestern Anthropological Association (SWAA) in Albuquerque next month (April 24-25, 2020).
We expect that this announcement does not come as a surprise given the flood of conference and meeting cancellations, the bans on travel, and the health directives against travel or large group gatherings. We recognize that health and safety concerns of our members, families and communities take priority in this decision and we know it is for the best. However, we acknowledge that we are especially disappointed because we received a great turn-out in terms of abstract submissions, and we were looking forward to a great program and two days of amazing panels, presentations, posters, and videos. We are grateful to Dr. Emily Mendenhall who was scheduled to be the Keynote Speaker.
However, we are pleased to announce that we have rescheduled this year’s conference to next year: April 23-24, 2021. As was supposed to happen this year, next year’s conference will be in Albuquerque at the Hotel Albuquerque, and will have the same Community, Culture and Wellbeing theme. Dr. Emily Mendenhall has graciously given us a tentative yes to being the Keynote Speaker in 2021, but we will confirm with her in the fall and we will keep you posted.
We thank you for your support of SWAA.
We will be in touch with you very soon with logistical information regarding conference registration and abstracts. Any hotel reservations at the Hotel Albuquerque associated with the conference will be cancelled as a block so you do not have to individually cancel your stay.
We look forward to seeing you here in Albuquerque next April.
